Your Guide to Preventing and/or Healing Bruises

Bruising is a risk when undergoing any Botox and/or dermal filler treatment. Due to the vast and complex orientation of blood vessels and capillaries sitting beneath the skin’s surface it is hard to predict whether a client will bruise or not. For this reason, we recommend avoiding scheduling your Botox or filler appointment within two weeks of a major event or vacation. Here are a few more tips on how to stay bruise free and what to do when you do bruise.

Before your appointment:

Try to avoid alcohol, fish oil, flax seed oil, multivitamins, NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen and aspirin for 24-72 hours prior to your appointment. Avoiding these things prevents the likelihood of bruising during your appointment. Arnica Montana and Bromelain are naturopathic supplements that help breakdown bruises faster. Arnica and Bromelain may be taken up to 3 days prior to your filler appointment.

After your appointment:

Try to avoid drinking alcohol (thins the blood) and engaging in activities that cause enlargement of blood vessels (direct sunlight, steam rooms, saunas, and strenuous exercise) for 24-48 hours. All of these activities have the ability to cause additional bruising. The best makeup for covering bruises is Dermablend. Arnica Montana and Bromelain are naturopathic supplements that help breakdown bruises faster. Arnica and Bromelain may be taken up to 7 days after your filler appointment.
