How to create a more masculine look with Botox and fillers

While we are very far away from a client population made up of 50% men, our society is moving in that direction. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, there has been a 397% increase in the number of Botox procedures done on males from the year 2000 to year 2017. The number of male Botox procedures increased by 5% from 2016 to 2017 and it continues to rise each year. We see at least 1-2 male clients every day at Simply Injectables.

Take Brad Pitt, part of his charm is undoubtedly his jawline, chin and prominent brow bone and low-lying brows. The key to creating masculine facial features is to focus on a wide, smooth forehead, prominent bone structure (specifically brow bones, cheek bones and jaw), a highly defined jaw line, and a prominent square chin.

1. Jaw contour

To create more lateral projection in males we focus in the lower half of the face and widen the jaw line with dermal filler. The angle of the jaw should be square and sharp. This creates a masculine strength.

2. Square chin

Imagine we’ve already sculpted a strong jaw angle. Next we need a powerful chin to complete the look. In men we focus on a wide squarer shaped chin. This contributes to a sharp jawline by tightening skin elasticity and even contributes to less flaccidity underneath the chin.

3. Low, straight, mysterious brows

Another masculine feature is low lying, straight and mysterious brows. Botox can be used to flatten the brows and lower the brow position. This also smooths the forehead simultaneously.

4. Midface volume

Midface volume is important to males and females because it brings a look of health and joy to the midface. Adding midface volume to a male should be slightly different than adding volume to a female. The volume should be lower and more medial to avoid high feminine cheek bone look. This treatment also helps to prevent signs of aging by keeping the volume higher which prevents nasal labial folds from setting in.

5. Reduction of the double chin

Because the jawline is considered so masculine, the last recommendation we have is to use Kybella to remove any excess fat under the chin. This helps to highlight the sharpness of the jaw and the prominence of the chin. Kybella is FDA-approved to destroy the fat cells underneath the chin. The results are permanent but can take up to 3 treatments. The procedure takes no more than 30 minutes but there is a period of swelling that can last as long as 1 month.
